CADET MAGAZINE | VOL IV - CONTRIBUTORS
CONNECT + INSPIRE
CADET is a bi-annual magazine about West Point culture.
Highly independent, quite unofficial, aggressively dedicated.
Based in DC @chrisWpestel @carolinepestel
COOPERATE & DOMINATE
CADET was designed to be a collaborative endeavor. While VOL I (SOLD OUT) was comprised entirely of images and articles attributed to the CADET team, VOL II proudly featured the work of 10 individuals from the USMA community. VOL III (SOLD OUT) blew the doors wide open with 20 contributors.
Our most recent offering, VOL IV, again weaves together 6 decades of the Long Gray Line to bring you a survey of West Point culture and creativity. We have the esteemed honor to highlight grads old and new, current cadets and a West Point community member - we are thrilled to have the opportunity to share their talents with you.
What we had envisioned over 3-years ago was a true community of West Point storytellers. To-date we have collaborated with 41 West Pointers from 21 USMA classes ranging from USMA 1967 - USMA 2021, produced over 400+ pages of magazine content, corralled an online community approaching 15,000, have subscribers in 34/50 US States and ship magazines, pennants, and prints from our growing online shop all over the world.
So, now that the latest edition of CADET magazine is here, we're excited to bring you a sneak peek of the 18 West Pointers who helped make it a reality.
VOL IV will take you to Nepal, Fort Hood, Fort Riley, to 1944 and 1907 and then back to present day Hudson Valley. We'll present, to you, a collection of West Point poems, by two USMA 1967 grads who were instructors in the English Department, that are as relevant today as they were when they were published in 1975.
VOL IV will also introduce you to 5 West Point artist from our “West Point 100: Creators” project - 2 exceptionally talented fine artists from USMA 1988 & USMA 2003, a former FBI-agent/street photographer from USMA 1990, a West Point community member who creates cadet portraits from repurposed maps, and art created from coffee spilled on canvas from a member of USMA 2004.
We also bring you two book excerpts by West Point authors from USMA 1990 and USMA 2015. One about the 1944 USMA Basketball team and the other by the current Director of Player Development for Army Football.
In all, VOL IV of CADET is 100-pages, packed with beautiful stories, your stories…told through first-hand accounts, essays, photography, illustrations, art and poetry.
Here’s a look at the contributors who are helping make VOL IV of CADET our best and most ambitious effort yet.
